The War has hit home.

Owasso - An Owasso family is mourning the loss of an American hero.

Specialist Andrew Looney was one of two soldiers who died Monday when his unit was attacked by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. Looney's family says the 22-year-old went into the Army right after graduation.

As a child growing up in Owasso, Andrew Looney is described as a quiet, shy, very polite Christian young man. At Owasso High School, he played on the football team. He was a thin young man with a slender build. He didn't play often, but when he did get in the game, he performed with great determination.

"He wasn't quick to join things," says Andrew's mother, Martha Looney. "But he was quick to serve his country. He wanted to serve his country and he loved the Army, he loved the infantry."

Andrew's dad Richard is a Vietnam war veteran who is extremely proud of his young soldier, who he described as a soft-spoken individual, but very determined and one who leads others by example. He compares Andrew to the soldiers of the greatest generation.

"It's hard to explain," he says. "But it's like the soldiers of World War II that were over in the Pacific, or even Germany. They determined to be a soldier."

So determined, that even after being wounded in Iraq (web news) three years ago and losing part of his right foot, he remained in the Army even though he could have gotten out.

Pastor Steven Johnson of the Beacon Hill Baptist Church describes Andrew as a genuine young man who had solid values.

"There's value to honor, value to serving your country," Johnson says. "There's value to living a life that has a Christian witness and there's value to completing the task."

Besides his mom and dad, Andrew is survived by a brother and sister.

Andrew Looney will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. His family will have a special memorial service for him soon in Owasso.

Owasso - Funeral services have been scheduled for an Owasso soldier who died earlier this week in Afghanistan.

Twenty-two-year-old Specialist Andrew Looney was one of two soldiers killed when their unit was attacked by a suicide bomber.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 28th at 7 p.m. at the Owasso High School Performing Arts Center. Story above from Channel 8

My feelings: This young man lived in are neighborhood. I didn't know him but new of his parents they walk their dog every day pass are house. We would have little conversation's about their dog or just a hi! My heart and prayers are with there family. They are having people line the streets holding flags Monday night before his funeral. I plan on taking the kids and Jeff if he is home from work. I pray every night for the men and women in the miltary and fighting for our freedom.
